I’m obsessed with scoping out new recipes on Pinterest. It’s a huge time-suck for a lot of people and there are a ton of recipes on there where I wonder, “Is that actually any good?”

So I’ve created Pinterest: Pass or Fail? It’s kind of an ode to all of those wonderfully crazy recipes with beautiful photos we see, but never quite get around to making. So this is what I’m going to do: From time to time, I’m going to take one of these recipes, cook them up and review them right here on my site. I’ll tell you if they worked, whether they were delicious and if it’s worth the pin. So let’s get started.

Cinnamon Roll Pancakes (pre-flip)

First up, we have these Cinnamon Roll Pancakes. I was looking a solid “breakfast for dinner” recipe yesterday and came across these gorgeous-looking pancakes. They looked super rich, but I was having a major sweet tooth yesterday so I thought I’d indulge. Well, my high hopes were quickly dashed. I followed the recipe just as the blogger described, and it just didn’t work. You are supposed to put a nice swirl of cinnamon and sugar on the pancakes after they’ve set up, and flip for just about a minute to finish cooking. Well, the butter/sugar mixture just basically melts all over the pan and eventually starts to burn. So nothing is left on the actual pancake.

Maybe I missed something, but I think the only want to keep them looking pretty is to finish them off in the oven (and who’s got time for that?) [In all fairness, we just ate them anyways. After about 6 pancakes, I just used to the batter to make regular ones.]

Outcome: It’s a fail.
