Five Things Friday – Aug. 14
Happy Friday! It’s been a loooong week and we literally have nothing scheduled for the weekend. I’ve got plans to do some recipe testing, grocery shopping and home projects. So to kick off the weekend, I thought I’d do a Five Things Friday feature, sharing just five random things. So here goes:
- Did you guys notice the new blog logo and style? My amazingly creative friend Claire created it, and I’m loving the new color scheme! I still have some more housekeeping type things, but I’m getting close on Christen in the Kitchen’s minor facelift.
I made my very first trip to the new Lush store at Crossgates Mall in Albany and it was awesome. I’ve heard so much about their bath bombs so I picked up one each for me, Hadley and Bryn. They are huge and smell just incredible.
I’ve been in a little bit of a dessert rut lately and found some really great inspiration from a new cookbook I just got – Teeny’s Tour of Pies. Her pies are so creative (Earl Grey Custard Pie with a Sugar Cookie Crust!) so I can’t wait to try some out and see how it goes. I especially loved that she has ties to Ithaca, N.Y., which is close by to my hometown.
I am yet another person who has read “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up,” and threw away a ton of stuff as a result of it. Her methods for decluttering and organizing are pretty elementary, but were really eye-opening to me, especially once I started to think about why I was hanging onto certain things. My bedroom and the girl’s bedroom closets are dramatically cleaner and I’m not going to stop there. I just bought this small storage unit from Target to hold some odds and ends in the girl’s bedroom.
We are trucking along on potty training Bryn. Its exhausting, but I think she’s really starting to get the hang of it. She’s getting bored of her usual candy so I’m going to have to start buying little “surprises” as potty treats.
So there you have it! Five completely random things that I’ve been thinking about/loving/living lately. Share in the comments below what’s on your mind for this Friday and have a great weekend!
