Hey there! Hi there! Hello there! How’s everybody been? Things are cooking right along for us and Christmas is going to be here before we know it!

The holidays are in full swing with the Gowans, and I’m already inundating Trevor with way too much Christmas music (which is definitely driving him nuts). Since its been a while, I thought I’d check in and let you know about how things are going.

Holiday Baking

The fall went way too fast and winter is in full swing here. I’m definitely excited to do some holiday baking, and I have a whole list of Christmas cookies that I’m going to be stocking our freezer with. I’ve already made two batches of my Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Truffles and a Gingerbread Bundt Cake. Both were for a work holiday party, but I still have plenty more to do for our home baking. I feel like I’ve finally got the hang of making truffles and getting them to look as polished as possible. (Let me know if anyone is interested in tips and I can do a blog post on it!)

Travel, Travel and More Travel

This fall has been crazy with traveling. We were going in a million different directions for work and other things in October and November. Things are still hectic, but Trevor is home through the rest of the year (yeah!) so its nice to have everyone back in one spot. Literally, back in November, Trevor got home from a work trip at 2 a.m. early one morning and I left for the airport at 4:45 a.m. (just hours later!) for a quick weekend to the Outer Banks with my family. It was really nice to have a weekend away and see my family, but it’s been nice to be home and feel somewhat settled. I’m a total homebody.

Hadley turned 7

I can’t believe I have a 7 year-old, but she’s literally getting so old, so quickly. She is just so stinking smart too. She’s started reading Harry Potter and loving all kinds of chapter books. We had a little cake decorating party (of course) at our house with some of her friends and it was hysterical. The cakes turned out great and it was a ton of sugar. Her birthday is the same week as Halloween so that’s always a time where I’m pushed to my absolute sanity. I also did a serious over-order on balloons for Hadley’s party so it literally filled our house with balloons for quite a few days. For two little girls, that was heaven.

So now it’s on to Christmas. Our cards are mailed. The shopping is done, but now its just a million loose ends to tie up. I’m doing plenty of deep breathing and trying to preserve my sanity between work projects, holiday events, hockey practices, gymnastics classes and lots of children’s birthday parties.

I’d love to ever find a way to get through the holidays with a little bit less stress, but I don’t think that exists. That’s why I keep so many Christmas cookies on hand.

So, I’m hoping you will see more of me. I do like sharing recipes and stories from our house, but I’ve never been good at thinking that blogging is like my second job. I always want to enjoy it and keep it light. I’ll be back soon with some delicious recipes and maybe even some holiday party ideas!
